Marti is a public health nutrition expert with 30 years of international experience in food and nutrition security programme and project management, and in multisectoral and multi-stakeholder partnerships with public and private sectors. She is passionate about private sector contributions to sustainable development, sustainable food systems for healthy people and a healthy planet. Marti was the lead consultant for MQSUN+ on the report ‘Where Business and Nutrition Meet’ (2017). In her most recent position, Marti led the global support team of the EU initiative National Information Platforms for Nutrition, set up in 9 countries. From 2012 through mid-2017, Marti was Global Programme Director at the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), where she collaborated with local businesses and organisations in Africa and Asia on the development and, commercial and non-commercial, distribution of nutritious complementary foods and micronutrient powders for children over 6 months old. She also initiated new work streams on behaviour change, workforce nutrition and adolescent nutrition. Prior to GAIN, Marti worked at Unilever, where she was initiated, developed and managed public-private partnerships amongst others with the UN World Food Programme, supporting school nutrition programmes, developing employee engagement activities and cause-related marketing campaigns. Between 2010 and 2013, Marti served as the co-chair of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Business Network. In her early career, Marti worked as senior nutrition advisor at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam and as a nutrition epidemiologist at INSERM, Paris, on the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC). She has an MSc and Ph.D. (with 2 years of fieldwork in Bénin) in Human Nutrition from the University of Wageningen, the Netherlands.
